Millwork Finishing Manager
Custom Millwork and Design Group, Inc (CMD) primarily manufactures custom millwork for medium and large new and renovation projects within the hospitality and multi family living industries across the world. CMD provides superior quality using state-of-the-art computerized machinery, knowledgeable staff, and attention to detail. We are currently looking for an experienced millwork and cabinet finisher to be the Team Lead for our finishing department. This role is critical to ensuring that all wood components are properly prepared and finished to meet our high standards of craftsmanship and client expectations. The ideal candidate has experience in surface preparation, sanding, priming, and applying finishes in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.
The qualified individual needs to be attentive to detail with at least 3 years of experience. Light duty physical excursion required. Willing to train a candidate with automobile finishing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Finishing Department
- Inspect, sand, and prepare wood surfaces for painting or finishing
- Apply primers, sealers, and topcoats using spray equipment, brushes, or rollers
- Mix and match stains, paints, and finishes according to specifications
- Maintain a clean and organized paint booth and prep area
- Perform quality checks to ensure smooth, consistent finishes
- Collaborate with production and assembly teams to meet project timelines
- Safely handle and dispose of paint, solvents, and other chemicals
- Maintain equipment and report any maintenance needs
- Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of experience in painting, finishing, or woodworking preferred
- Familiarity with HVLP spray systems and sanding tools
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and finish specifications
- Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to paint and chemical handling
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and noise in a shop environment
