Position Summary
Custom Manufacturing and Engineering Inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant to support our manufacturing operations and growing cost accounting needs. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate GAAP compliant financial records, owning general ledger activity, supporting full cycle close, and managing indirect rate calculations including overhead and G&A.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, understands cost structures, and can operate confidently within a structured compliance environment. Exposure to government contracting and Cost Accounting Standards is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Core Technical Accounting
- Prepare and maintain GAAP compliant financial statements and supporting schedules
- Participate in and execute assigned portions of the monthly, quarterly, and year end close process
- Maintain hands on ownership of assigned general ledger accounts
- Prepare and review journal entries and supporting documentation
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Analyze general ledger activity and identify variances
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
- Generate financial reports and key performance metrics using Excel
- Utilize COGNOS reporting tools as needed
Cost Accounting and Manufacturing Support
- Calculate and support indirect rate structures including overhead and G&A
- Maintain cost accounting structures within a manufacturing environment
- Assist with inventory accounting and reconciliation
- Support work in progress tracking and valuation
- Analyze production costs and support variance analysis
- Ensure accurate allocation of direct and indirect costs
Government Contracting and Compliance Support
- Support accounting activities within a government contracting environment
- Apply Cost Accounting Standards principles in daily accounting activities when applicable
- Assist with preparation and support of incurred cost submissions
- Support external audits including DCAA and other regulatory reviews
- Track and monitor allowable and unallowable costs
- Maintain audit ready documentation and accounting support files
Controls and Financial Support
- Follow established internal control procedures
- Assist in documenting accounting processes and procedures
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities
- Provide analytical support to executive leadership as requested
Required Qualifications
- Manufacturing accounting experience
- Three or more years accounting experience with hands on general ledger responsibility
- Demonstrated experience preparing GAAP compliant financial statements
- Experience participating in full cycle month end close
- Strong journal entry and reconciliation experience
- Experience calculating indirect rates including overhead and G&A
Strongly Relevant Experience
- Experience in a government contracting environment
- Exposure to Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
- Experience preparing or supporting incurred cost submissions
- Inventory accounting experience
Preferred Experience
- Direct support of DCAA audits
- Work in progress (WIP) accounting
- Cost accounting in a regulated environment
- Tracking allowable and unallowable costs
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and lookups
- COGNOS reporting experience
