What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder / Fabricator position at Custom Iron Works, Inc.?
We are seeking experienced Welder/Fabricators for complex industrial metalwork. You’ll build and assemble high-quality structural steel, aluminum, and stainless projects including railings, stairs, plates, trusses, columns, bollards, and miscellaneous metal assemblies for commercial, government, and custom contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and job instructions
- Fabricate, align, clamp and weld structural steel components using MIG, TIG, and stick welding processes
- Perform welding on aluminum, stainless, and miscellaneous metals to structural and architectural tolerances
- Assemble components to required specifications with precision and quality
- Use grinders, cutting torches, saws, drill presses, and other fabrication tools
- Sweep, clean, and prepare weld areas in preparation for inspection and finishing
- Identify and resolve fabrication defects; collaborate with lead personnel for quality standards
- Adhere to safety procedures, lock-out/tag-out protocols, and PPE requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience as a structural/fabrication welder in industrial, steel, or heavy fabrication environment
- Certification in welding preferred (e.g., AWS, structural welding certification)
- Strong ability MIG, TIG and stick weld in steel, aluminum, and stainless
- Blueprint reading skills and familiarity with welding symbols
- Knowledge of steel fabrication best practices and quality control
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong safety mindset and ability to meet project deadlines
Preferred:
- Experience with structural steel assemblies, AISC standards
- Prior work with miscellaneous metals, complex weld assemblies, and heavy fixtures
- Work hours Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
