Job Summary:
The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial refrigeration systems used in poultry processing. This role ensures that all refrigeration equipment operates efficiently and safely to maintain product quality and comply with food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, monitor, and maintain ammonia and/or Freon refrigeration systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, and other refrigeration components.
- Monitor system performance and make adjustments to maintain optimal temperatures for poultry storage and processing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues related to refrigeration systems.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and PSM (Process Safety Management) regulations.
- Respond to emergency calls and participate in on-call rotation as needed.
- Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to ensure temperature control standards are met.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the refrigeration plant and equipment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in HVAC/R or industrial refrigeration preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in industrial refrigeration, preferably in a food processing environment.
- Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems (NH3) and Freon systems.
- Familiarity with PSM and RMP (Risk Management Program) regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
- Willingness to work in cold, wet, and noisy environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights or in confined spaces.
Preferred Certifications:
- RETA (Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association) certification
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
- Ammonia Operator I or II Certification

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
