Position Overview
Custom Container Living is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Field Installation Technician (Field Owner) to lead the delivery, setup, and final completion of our modular and container homes at customer sites.
This role is ideal for a multi-craft tradesperson who enjoys travel, problem-solving, and taking ownership of field operations. As the Field Owner, you will be the primary on-site leader responsible for ensuring each installation is completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
You will take full responsibility for the jobsite—managing the work, resolving issues, coordinating support, and delivering a finished product ready for customer handoff.
Travel is a key component of this role, with assignments lasting 1 to 1.5 weeks at a time, staying on-site until the job is complete to maximize efficiency and reduce travel costs.
Key Responsibilities
Field Ownership & Leadership
- Serve as the go-to person on-site, owning the installation from arrival to completion
- Lead day-to-day field execution and ensure the job progresses on schedule
- Direct and coordinate any additional support team members sent from production
- Hold team members accountable to performance, quality, and timelines
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and homeowners
Delivery Preparation & Shop Support
- Maintain and organize delivery tools, equipment, and materials to ensure readiness for each install
- Assist with staging and kitting materials including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and finish components
- Support pre-delivery quality checks, ensuring systems are complete and units are ready for transport
- Verify units are secured, protected, and prepared for shipment (windows, doors, appliances, etc.)
Loading & Transport Support
- Assist with loading, securement, and preparation of units for transport
- Ensure all required tools, equipment, and materials are loaded prior to departure
- Support coordination with drivers and ensure readiness for delivery
On-Site Installation & Setup
- Assist with unloading, positioning, and setting modular/container units
- Measure, square, and lay out foundations to ensure accurate placement
- Evaluate site conditions for accessibility, stability, and safety
- Support crane operations and communicate effectively with operators
Multi-Trade System Connections
- Complete or assist with:
- Electrical connections (service tie-ins, panel work, troubleshooting)
- Plumbing connections (water, drain, fixtures, leak checks)
- HVAC connections and startup
- Ensure all systems are functional and meet company standards
Finish Work & Repairs
- Perform drywall repair, patching, and touch-up painting
- Complete finish carpentry adjustments (trim, doors, cabinets)
- Address punch-list items and ensure final product quality
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Take ownership of resolving on-site issues quickly and effectively
- Adapt to changing site conditions, weather, and access limitations
- Escalate major issues when needed while driving solutions in the field
Quality Control & Customer Handoff
- Perform detailed inspections of installed homes, ensuring quality standards are met
- Assist with final system checks (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) prior to turnover
- Support homeowner walkthroughs and provide basic system education
- Ensure site is cleaned, organized, and ready for customer handoff
- Document completed installations with photos and notes
Travel Requirements
- 50–60% travel required
- Expected to remain on-site until project completion (no routine weekend return trips)
- Travel includes company vehicles and occasional air travel
- Company provides lodging and covers meals during travel
Shop Support (When Not Traveling)
- Work on the production floor supporting builds and learning processes
- Assist with final QC, punch lists, and shipment prep
- Help maintain flow and support team needs across departments
Qualifications
- Experience in one or more trades required (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry)
- Ability to perform across multiple trades (multi-craft preferred)
- Modular or manufactured home installation experience highly desired
- Experience with set, level, and tie-in of modular units is a strong plus
- Proven ability to take ownership and lead work in the field
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Comfortable working outdoors and changing site conditions
- Ability to travel extensively and work on extended trips
- Valid driver’s license required
