Job Summary:
To perform custodial and maintenance functions for school under the direction of Custodial Site Manager
Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Custodial. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform custodial and maintenance functions as assigned by custodial site manager
- Implement instructions from custodial manager
- Assist custodial site manager with safety, energy conservation and security procedures
- Assist in the coordination of work orders generated at school site
- Assist with start-up and closing of school
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, in support of the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Arizona driver’s license and the ability to operate golf cart or gator type vehicle
- Minimum one year custodial and/or general maintenance experience
- Working knowledge and experience of custodial equipment, chemicals, supplies and cleaning procedures
- Working knowledge and experience of hand tools, pressure washers and other general maintenance equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Custodians work inside classrooms, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and offices, as well as outside maintaining school grounds
- Schools can be bustling with students, teachers, and activities, requiring custodians to navigate through crowds and maintain order
- Frequent use of cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and floor treatments requires proper safety precautions
- May work special events at school including week-ends
- May be exposed to high temperatures when working outside
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor, lift 50 lbs
