POSITION TITLE: Head Custodian - Other Sites
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Custodial Supervisor/Assigned Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months
HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $11.80, Midpoint $14.75, Maximum $17.70
Primary Purpose
Supervise the campus custodial operations. Establish and follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
Experience
Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Custodial Management and Cleaning
- Implement and maintain a cleaning schedule that includes cleaning classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, gyms, dressing facilities, athletic facilities, hallways, entry ways, offices, kitchens, meeting spaces, and other locations; floors, walls, and ceilings; wastebaskets and trash receptacles; windows and window coverings; and furniture and equipment.
- Maintain neat and clean buildings and grounds including walkways, driveways, parking lots, athletics fields/courts, and play areas.
- Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and request additional supplies as needed.
Maintenance and Repair
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to the principal or building administrator.
- Assist with facilities, cafeteria, and other rooms set up for daily activities or special events, including moving and arranging tables, chairs, and equipment as directed by the principal or building administrator.
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
Security and Safety
- Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
- Assume responsibility for opening and securing buildings each school day.
- Check daily to ensure that all panic bolts on exit doors are working properly during occupancy hours.
- Secure assigned District keys.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and chemicals.
- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency, and ensure that vehicles, tools, and equipment are in safe operating conditions.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor.

- Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
- Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials; occasional districtwide travel; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours
