Custer County is accepting applications for a full-time Custodial/Building Maintenance and Weed Sprayer position.
This year-round role is split between the Building Maintenance Department (60%) and the Weed and Pest Department (40%), offering a variety of indoor and outdoor work. Duties include general maintenance and janitorial tasks on county properties, groundskeeping, snow removal, and seasonal weed spraying along county-maintained roads from approximately May through September. Occasional weekend or holiday work may be required, particularly for weather-related duties. The starting wage is $18.94 per hour with full county benefits.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, have a valid driver’s license, and be physically able to lift 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions. Two years of related experience is preferred. Candidates must also be able to pass a background check and must possess or be able to obtain a South Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License (Categories G, 7, and 1) within 7 working days if hired during spraying season or within 30 days upon employment. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
