Position Summary: The County Jailer is responsible for the supervision, safety, and security of inmates housed in the county jail facility. This position ensures the humane treatment of individuals in custody while maintaining order, enforcing facility rules, and carrying out intake, release, and transportation procedures in accordance with applicable laws and department policies.
Essential Job Functions
- Process inmate bookings, including intake, searches, fingerprinting, photographing, and documentation.
- Supervise inmate activities to ensure order and discipline within the jail.
- Conduct regular inmate headcounts and cell inspections.
- Monitor surveillance equipment and conduct security checks of cells, facilities, and common areas.
- Distribute meals, hygiene supplies, and medications as directed by medical personnel.
- Respond to emergencies, inmate altercations, or medical issues in accordance with training.
- Maintain detailed records and prepare incident, disciplinary, and transport reports.
- Enforce facility rules, disciplinary measures, and ensure inmate rights are respected.
- Work cooperatively with law enforcement agencies, court personnel, and jail medical staff.
- All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.

- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Previous experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel. This position is occasionally required to run, climb, balance, crouch, and crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift and carry up to 25lbs. This position can require performing strenuous tasks requiring muscular strength and coordination.
Working Environment:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to interactions with physically violent and/or mentally or emotionally disturbed persons. The employee may come into physical contact with a member of the public, an inmate, or an arrestee by touching, controlling, sitting by, riding with and body searching the individual.
