What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend Day Welder position at CUST-O-FAB?
Job Profile and Essential Functions
Welders are required to be safety minded, highly productive experts who are willing to learn to cut, fit, and tack weld all parts of heat exchangers, vessels, and towers.
- Wear proper PPE at all times on shop floor and follow all safety protocols and procedures
- Read blueprints and weld procedures to ensure all welds are completed to required specifications
- Set up welding equipment, prepare materials and maintain a clean workstation to ensure proper welding
- Perform weld processes to fabricate or repair shell & tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and/or towers while maintaining less than a 5% x-ray repair rate
- Work with QC personnel to ensure quality is maintained on all welds
- Complete assigned work within given time frame and according to specifications
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned, which may include performing basic tasks when such a need arises
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a highly safety-oriented individual
- Must be able to pass a weld qualification test to acquire a code weld stamp.
- Must be able to read auto-cad prints for required specifications.
- Must be willing to learn to become efficient at arc gouging with a carbon-arc.
- Must be a team player who can work well with others to achieve company goals.
- Must be willing to help complete and sell off jobs by cleaning/fixing low quality welds.
Physical requirements
This position will be exposed to welding fumes and gases, and dust from grinder: use of PPE imperative. Work area is not climate controlled so extreme heat/cold may be experienced.
- Must be able to safely lift fifty pounds
- Ability to work in a shop environment in all seasons
- Ability to safely enter into and work productively in confined spaces of an exchanger or vessel
- Ability to safely tie off and work from elevated heights on top of exchanger or vessel
