What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regular Day Structural Welder position at CUST-O-FAB?
Structural Welders are required to be safety minded, highly productive individuals who can cut, fit, tack weld, finish weld, and read blueprints for all structural steel parts and sub-assemblies.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Must be a highly safety-oriented individual
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in shop fabrication and welding structural steel parts and sub-assemblies
- Extensive knowledge of welding with GMAW & FCAW thermal processes in the manufacturing of various types of structure
- Ability to pass a weld qualification for each process
- Ability to read and understand drawings, prints and dimensions
- Ability to individually fit, tack, weld and assemble all structural parts per given prints
- Ability to weld within the parameters of a WPS/PQR
- Ability to be a self-motivated and highly productive employee who requires minimal supervision and who can efficiently execute a plan to make jobs happen on time within the estimated hours given
- Ability to be a team player who can work well with others to achieve company goals
- Ability to recognize and rectify sub-standard welds to ensure product quality
- Ability to be punctual and dependent with a willingness to work hours outside of a standard schedule when required to achieve a task or complete a project
- Must be willing to step outside of welding role when a company need arises and perform basic tasks such as assembly, grinding, sanding, and shop clean up
- Ability to be a team player and be a company-oriented individual who takes pride in their work
Physical requirements
This position will be exposed to welding fumes and gases, and dust from grinder: use of PPE imperative. Work area is not climate controlled so high ambient temperatures may be experienced during summer months.

- Ability to safely enter into and work productively in confined spaces of an exchanger or vessel
- Ability to safely tie off and work from elevated heights on top of exchanger or vessel
