We are assisting our project partner, Snow & Company, Inc. with their search for a
Controller & Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager.
THIS ROLE:
Snow & Company is a dynamic, fast-growing shipyard specializing in new vessel construction and ship repair. We are seeking a Controller & Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager to lead our accounting and financial management functions and play a key role in shaping the company’s financial strategy as we continue to grow.
This individual will serve as both a hands-on accounting leader and a strategic business partner, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and insightful analysis to drive performance and profitability. The Controller & FP&A Manager will report directly to the company’s founder and owner, and will collaborate closely with project management, operations, and executive leadership to support decision-making across all areas of the business.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as the company’s financial steward, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of all accounting and financial reporting.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust accounting systems, internal controls, and financial policies.
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes aligned with company goals.
- Partner with leadership to analyze company performance, project profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Provide financial insight and modeling to support strategic decisions, capital investments, and contract negotiations.
- Identify and communicate key financial trends, risks, and opportunities to the management team.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, job costing, and bank reconciliations.
- Manage the monthly and annual financial close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Prepare and distribute financial statements and create performance dashboards.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Design and maintain KPI dashboards and financial performance metrics for management review.
- Conduct scenario modeling and “what-if” analyses to guide operational and strategic decisions.
- Support project teams in developing and monitoring job budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Analyze project and departmental margins, identifying opportunities for cost savings and margin improvement.
- Provide data-driven insights and recommendations for pricing, resourcing, and process improvements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Development & Systems Improvement
- Lead and mentor accounting staff to ensure professional growth and operational excellence.
- Evaluate and enhance accounting systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to promote a financially disciplined, performance-driven culture.
- Support implementation of new financial processes and controls as the company scales.
WHO YOU ARE:
Certifications and Other Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management in manufacturing, construction, or project-based industries.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks and Excel).
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small, high-performing team.
Preferred:
- CPA, CMA, or MBA
- Experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or marine industry accounting.
- Familiarity with job cost accounting and contract financial management.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This position is based in an office within an active boatyard and requires periodic visits to vessels and production areas. These environments may include moderate to high noise levels, uneven surfaces, and physical access challenges such as inclined gangways and vertical ladders. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols are mandatory. Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required to meet reporting or project deadlines.
