Job Summary
The Operations Major is a supervisory leader responsible for overseeing the safety, security, and administration of a detention facility. Working under the Assistant Administrator and Administrator, this role ensures compliance with laws and regulations, manages inmate care and treatment, and enhances facility efficiency.
This position requires a strong leader with a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges of running a detention facility. The Operations Major plays a crucial role in ensuring the facility operates effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Law Enforcement, or related field OR any combination of related education and supervisory work experience for a total of seven (7) years; five (5) of which must have been in a mid-level supervisory role such as a Detention Lieutenant.
• Seven (7) years’ experience in detention, corrections, law enforcement, or related military experience required, two (2) of which must have been in an upper-level supervisory role, such as a Detention Captain.
• Must be able to understand, communicate, read, and write in English.
• Bilingual is helpful, but not a requirement.
• Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Ability to perform all essential duties as listed below.
• Ability to perform the essential duties in the working conditions described below.
• Ability to communicate effectively with large and small groups of people, and to diffuse stressful situations.
• Ability to travel, including traveling out of town and/or overnight.
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to set up and maintain complex managerial systems.
• Computer literacy required, especially with knowledge of word processing, business-related, and record-keeping programs.
• Ability to perform essential duties and adapt to working conditions.
• No history or pattern of reckless driving, DWI, or irresponsible driving in the last five (5) years.
• No history of felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, violence, illegal drug distribution, or dishonesty.
• Must be bondable.
