POSITION TITLE: Athletic Director
SITE: Currituck County High School
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:12 Months
SALARY: Per NC State Salary Schedule plus local supplement
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Must hold or be eligible to hold a Secondary NC Licensure from the NC Department of Public Instruction. A teaching assignment is not required at this time, but may be required in the future should circumstances dictate the necessity.
- Administrative and/or Coaching experience
- Working knowledge of secondary public school athletic rules and regulations governing sporting events
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, administers, and directs the district’s interscholastic athletic program
- Interprets and participates in formulating extramural athletic policies
- Employs and discharges coaching staff and other department employees
- Plans and coordinates activities of coaching staff
- Directs preparation and dissemination of publicity to promote athletic events
- Prepare a master budget and supervise equipment inventories
- Secure and file the paperwork for equipment lease requests involving the athletic department
- Prepare a master sports calendar that includes conference and non-conference games/events
- Coordinate gym, building and athletic field use with the office, gym use for practices and games and give final clearance for use of either gym or athletic field
- Work with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision with trips
- Take care of travel arrangements and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams (and coaches) competing in postseason competition
- Seek and recommend suitable competition for all non-conference events/games
- Hire all officials for non-conference contests
- Confirm official’s contracts and all non-conference contest contracts
- Secure game workers for athletic contests, chain crews, announcers, clock operators, scorekeepers, line judges, etc. and submit the list of contracted workers for that contest to the event supervisor prior to the event
- Submit athletic expense requests for payment as appropriate
- Plans and schedules sports events, and oversees ticket sales activities, certifying reports of income produced from ticket sales
- May also direct programs for students of physical education
