What are the responsibilities and job description for the Testing Technician position at Current Lighting?
The Testing Technician supports Current Technology’s product development efforts as a member of the Reliability Laboratory team. The Reliability Laboratory team is involved in the product development process from circuit design validation, component qualification and reliability testing to various performance and safety testing of finished lighting products and controls. The team also provides engineering support with building prototypes, designing new tests, troubleshooting field returns and failures and writing reports for communication to external customers.
Team members work closely with Current’s global engineering team that includes engineers from various US locations, Canada, Mexico and China.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain and monitor test system of lighting fixtures and controls
- Perform standard LED driver validation tests
- Perform specialized LED driver, LED board, lamp, fixture performance tests
- Partner with Engineering to create new testing setups as LED driver and Controls product lines evolve
- Work with Engineers to help root cause hardware failures on LED drivers and Controls from the field
- Be responsible for the maintenance of the Reliability Lab in the Greenville office
- Set-up, calibrate and operate a variety of testing systems
- Provide electrical, electronic and mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance for testing equipment
- Enter/upload data electronically and manage various computer upload/communication problems
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC programs and hardware
- Follow prescribed Laboratory QMS processes
Additional Responsibilities:
- Have a part in identifying and implementing continuous improvement in all testing systems
- Support the upgrade of testing equipment
- Hands-on implementation of projects aimed at improving measurement productivity and quality
Competencies:
- Familiar with basic electrical wiring and common safety practices
- Ability to read electrical diagrams and schematics
- Ability to read mechanical prints and diagrams
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Knowledge and experience with soldering electronic components
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to follow verbal and written work instructions
- Must be well-organized and excellent with detail
- Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to have good customer service interaction skills
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or other similar degree
- 2 years of experience in similarly situated positions
- Knowledge of fundamental electrical and electronic concepts, practices and procedures applied to testing and measurement equipment, operation, and troubleshooting
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronics equipment or instrumentation including controls
- Must have experience in application and use of electronic meters including digital oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, PC’s
- Must have experience with Windows OS & Microsoft Office products
- Have experience working with Data Acquisition Systems
- Working knowledge of test equipment automation with tools such as LabView
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or other similar degree
- Experience wiring intricate electrical systems
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC programs and hardware
