Job Summary

The Shipping & Inventory Lead will support the operational buildout and day-to-day execution of a new Rochester, NY distribution center. Reporting to the Director of Warehouse Operations, this role is responsible for leading the execution of receiving, storage, inventory control, and shipping activities.

This is a hands-on role focused on driving daily operational performance, ensuring accurate and timely material flow, and maintaining compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to guide frontline execution in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Responsibilities

Shipping, Receiving & Material Flow

  • Lead daily receiving and shipping activities to ensure timely and accurate processing of inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Execute and coordinate material handling, put-away, staging, and order fulfillment activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation, labeling, and handling of all materials in accordance with company procedures.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to meet service level expectations.

Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Execute inventory control processes including cycle counting, reconciliation, and stock verification.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure alignment between physical and system inventory.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to inventory, shipments, and material movement.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage practices to maintain product integrity and traceability.

Operational Leadership & Support

  • Serve as the on-floor lead for shipping, receiving, and inventory operations.
  • Provide guidance, training, and day-to-day direction to Operator I staff executing shipping and inventory tasks.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members on SOPs, work instructions, and systems.
  • Reinforce accountability, safety, and adherence to procedures across daily operations.

Process Adherence & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure consistent execution of established SOPs, work instructions, and workflows.
  • Identify inefficiencies or breakdowns in material flow and escalate improvement opportunities.
  • Support implementation of process improvements and operational changes.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient operational environment aligned with best practices.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with internal procedures and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, cGMP as applicable to handling processes).
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining proper documentation, training records, and adherence to procedures.
  • Promote a culture of quality and compliance across daily operations.

Performance Monitoring

  • Track and communicate daily operational metrics such as shipping accuracy, receiving throughput, and inventory accuracy.
  • Escalate risks or issues that may impact service, accuracy, or compliance.

Experience

Required

  • 3–6 years of experience in warehouse, logistics, or distribution operations
  • Experience with shipping, receiving, and inventory control processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands-on, self-directed work style with the ability to lead by example
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience in a regulated industry (medical device, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or similar)
  • Familiarity with inventory systems (WMS, ERP, or similar tools)
  • Experience supporting audits or working in controlled environments
  • Exposure to distribution center environments
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement training (basic level)
