ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

The mission of CuriOdyssey is to inspire a love for science and curiosity about the world in young learners. Located in Coyote Point Park in San Mateo County, CuriOdyssey is an interactive science center and accredited California native animal wildlife zoo that provides first-hand experiences with the natural world. POSITION OVERVIEW

CuriOdyssey is seeking an Annual Fund Manager (AFM) who is excited to join a robust and thriving development program which has gained considerable traction and enthusiasm from a large community of donors over the past few years.


The AFM is responsible for growing the donor base, renewing and upgrading individual support, and strengthening relationships with current donors and members below the major donor level. The AFM is accountable for meeting annual fund donation goals for donors who contribute less than $10,000 annually. The AFM develops and implements strategies for direct mail and electronic fundraising, personalized communications and cultivation efforts, and donor and member events and benefits. This position is also responsible for setting standards and providing content for donor acknowledgements and regular communications.


The ideal candidate will be a collaborative thinker, experienced in raising contributed revenue from similar nonprofit entities such as museums, educational organizations, science organizations, and/or organizations with a social justice mission.


The AFM serves in a pivotal role stewarding existing members and donors to increase their annual giving, creating opportunities for new donors to support the organization, and will be expected to refine and build the Mid-Level Giving Society of donors at the $1,000-$9,999 level.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and grow Annual Fund community of donors, including gifts from $25-$9,999, with a focus on increasing philanthropic revenue and attracting new donors to build the pipeline.                                                                                                                                
  • Work with the Director of Development and marketing staff, oversees the strategy, design and implementation of 2-3 annual direct mail solicitation campaigns, including print and digital asks, to increase the number of donors and prospects as well as their individual gift amounts.
  • Manage the online giving program to increase annual participation under the direction of the Director of Development and in consultation with department staff.
  • Collaborate with the marketing staff to create a detailed schedule of direct marketing activities and ensure the appropriate review of copy and mailing list selection.
  • Work with the Director of Development and Development Manager to determine solicitation strategies for increased giving opportunities with donors who contribute at the Mid-Level Giving range of $1,000-$9,999; develop strategic donor recognition opportunities and facilitate the transfer of these donors between programs.
  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to ensure annual fund program goals are met.
  • Apply leadership skills to shape and implement strategic plans aimed at increasing revenue from Annual Fund donors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Development or leadership.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Proven track record of increasing contributed revenue through successful Annual Fund management and donor engagement, with experience in nonprofit sectors such as museums, educational institutions, science organizations, and social justice-focused entities
  • Commitment to the mission of CuriOdyssey and to science and environmental education for children, schools, and families
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and engaging interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Live Scan background check clearance
  • Experience with the full donor cycle – identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Knowledge of the local philanthropic community, state, and federal resources
  • Proficiency in technological tools such as Altru (or similar donor database) and Google Suite
  • Must be able to represent CuriOdyssey independently to potential donors and make requests for support
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team; experience working with diverse constituencies
  • Proven organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and produce high quality results on time
  • Possess critical thinking and problem solving skills; high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Available for occasional work events on weekends and evenings


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Status: Exempt, Full-time
  • Salary: $75,000-$90,000/year
  • Benefits include: individual medical, dental, life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, and museum membership
