Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Biomed Technician - Bed Maintenance is responsible for inspecting, testing, and performing both corrective and preventative maintenance on a variety of hospital beds, gurneys and wheelchairs. This technician ensures all equipment is safe, functional, and compliant with healthcare standards.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components of hospital beds, gurneys and wheelchairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Conduct thorough safety checks and function tests on all repaired and maintained equipment.
- Replace defective or worn components, including motors, control panels, side rails, and actuators.
- Maintain detailed service records and documentation for inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed.
- Train healthcare staff on the safe and proper use of beds and related equipment.
- Communicate clearly with clinical and maintenance teams to ensure timely resolution of equipment issues.
Types of Equipment Maintained:
- Hospital beds: electric, manual, and specialized long-term and acute care beds
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- High School diploma, GED, or trade school graduate (courses in mathematics and electricity preferred)
- Demonstrated competence in troubleshooting and repairing complex bed systems
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams
- Strong organizational and documentation skills; detail-oriented and accurate
- Ability to work independently and under deadline pressure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in electromechanical device maintenance and repair
- Previous experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Familiarity with equipment from Agiliti, ARJO, Hill-Rom, and Stryker
- Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Bilingual skills a plus
