REQUIREMENTS:

• Availability Monday–Friday with a 6:30 AM start time
• Reliable transportation
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs multiple times throughout the day
• Valid standard driver’s license (CDL is NOT required)
• Access to a working smartphone
• Safely operate box trucks and vans on streets, highways, neighborhoods, and disposal sites
• Provides timely and courteous waste removal services to customers while maintaining clean work areas.
• Notifies Dispatch of any service interruptions, incidents, accidents, property damage, or unsafe situations; exhibits an ability to be observant and aware of all surroundings at all times.

This position involves handling food scraps, not processed compost. You will pick up food scraps, store them in the van, and deliver them to a facility that turns them into nutrient-rich compost. If you have an aversion to strong smells, bugs, or juicy food scraps, this job will not be a good fit. The full service recycling and trash truck requires the use and maintenance of a hydraulic dump body. This can be a physically and mentally demanding position. Our current equipment requires manual lifting of bags, bins and buckets. And you are ALWAYS to be observant and aware of all surroundings at all times as a defensive and courteous operator.

Drivers will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and vans, while providing timely, courteous and tidy curbside collection of food scraps, recycling and landfill-bound trash on designated routes. The Driver safely maneuvers vehicles in residential or commercial environments; navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways and provides excellent customer service. Drivers should always conduct themselves in a neighborly manner to continually improve our communities with a heightened awareness to help keep our roads and neighborhoods tidy, safe and accessible.

HOURS:

We are seeking a full-time driver (40 hours) for 4–5 days per week. Drivers must be proficient in navigating Chittenden, Franklin, and Lamoille Counties using GPS.

Our routes evolve as we gain new customers, so exact daily hours may vary. Pickup routes typically take 6–8 hours, plus additional time for morning preparation, breaks, and unloading the vehicles. All drivers are allotted a 30-minute paid meal break.

COMPENSATION:

• Hourly pay starts at $23–$27, depending on experience.
• Pay increases may be awarded based on performance and responsibilities.
• Overtime (hours over 40 per week) is paid at 1.5× hourly rate.
• Bonuses are available after one month of employment, based on performance

LOCATION:

Our office and parking lot are located at 20 Susie Wilson Rd, Essex Junction. We aim to reach our first stop by 7:05 AM, so employees are expected to be at the office, clocked in and ready for work by 6:30 AM. Most workdays are completed between 2:00 & 4:00 PM.

WAGES:

Starting pay ranges from $23 to $27 per hour, depending on prior driving experience and performance during the training shift. Training typically consists of one full shift alongside another driver, during which we will review our route software, safety standards, collection procedures, and general operational guidelines.

New drivers will begin with lighter routes until they are able to handle a full route independently, which usually takes 1–2 weeks. We strongly value continuous improvement and encourage questions and feedback throughout your training and beyond.

CONVENIENCES:

This job is a balance of demanding and relaxed. We are also very flexible with requests for time off, offered on a first-come first-serve basis when given proper notice.

Employees may take breaks at any time along their route, provided it is reasonable and does not compromise safety or schedule commitments. All vehicles are equipped with GPS, and travel data is logged for reference. You will be expected to manage your time appropriately.

Our vehicles are equipped with radio, phone chargers and holders. Employees are welcome to listen to music or podcasts while performing their duties. However, the volume must be kept low enough to ensure that all surrounding alerts—such as pedestrian or cyclist warnings, car horns, and emergency sirens—can be clearly heard at all times. Maintaining awareness of your surroundings is essential for the safety of both employees and the public.
