Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides a safe, clean, and supportive environment for residents. This position assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), promotes emotional and social well-being, and attends to their physical comfort and care needs.
Vulnerable Adult Mandated Reporter
As a mandated reporter, the CNA is legally required to report any suspected or alleged cases of maltreatment, neglect, or abuse of vulnerable adults. Reports must be made promptly to the supervisor and appropriate state agencies, following facility policy and applicable laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide total or partial care to residents, including:
- Bathing (bed, tub, or shower)
- Grooming (hair, nails, shaving, dental care, makeup, dressing)
- Toileting and elimination needs
- Assist residents with ambulation, transferring, and positioning using assistive devices (walkers, wheelchairs, mechanical lifts, gait belts, or lift sheets)
- Answer call lights promptly and courteously
- Take and record vital signs, including temperature; measure and record intake and output, and weigh residents as directed
- Feed residents and provide assistance with meals as assigned
- Observe and immediately report any physical, emotional, or behavioral changes to the charge nurse
- Maintain resident dignity, privacy, and rights at all times
- Participate in activities for cognitively impaired residents as directed
- Attend mandatory in-services, department meetings, and training sessions
- Adjust schedule or work overtime as needed to meet facility needs
- Maintain confidentiality of resident and organizational information
- Follow all safety, infection control, and facility policies and procedures
- Demonstrate teamwork, dependability, punctuality, and professionalism
- Exhibit compassion, patience, and understanding when caring for geriatric or terminally ill residents
- Communicate effectively with residents, co-workers, families, and visitors
- Accept direction, feedback, and correction as appropriate
