Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing in overseeing and coordinating all nursing activities within the facility. The ADON ensures that resident care is delivered in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, facility policies, and accepted nursing practices. This role helps lead the nursing team to provide compassionate, person-centered care while maintaining compliance and high-quality outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
- Supervise and support nursing staff to ensure high standards of resident care.
- Participate in hiring, orientation, scheduling, training, and performance evaluations of nursing personnel.
- Conduct regular clinical rounds to observe care delivery and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Monitor documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to facility policy.
- Assist in reviewing incident reports, conducting investigations, and developing corrective action plans.
- Participate in infection control, safety, and quality assurance programs.
- Help ensure completion of resident assessments (MDS) and care plans that accurately reflect resident needs.
- Coordinate communication between nursing, therapy, dietary, and other departments.
- Assist with survey preparation and participate in state and federal inspections.
- Serve as acting Director of Nursing in the DON's absence.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive work environment.
Vulnerable Adult Mandated Reporter
A mandated vulnerable adult reporter of maltreatment, neglect, abuse of vulnerable residents/tenants. Required to report any alleged maltreatment, neglect, or abuse to your supervisor and appropriate state agencies.
Work Schedule
- Full-time; must be available for occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call coverage as needed.
