We are looking for a talented Electronic Systems Technical Specialist – Tools to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins’ business in Columbus, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

Investigate and resolve electronic tools issues end‑to‑end by identifying root causes, recommending corrective actions, owning resolution, and clearly documenting outcomes while leveraging guidance when needed.

Improve the effectiveness and reliability of electronic tools by applying and enhancing standard development processes such as ETPL workflows, 7‑step problem solving, and application product development lifecycle practices.

Deliver high‑quality, verified software features, components, and builds by collaborating and negotiating with product and software development teams to meet user and business needs.

Make sound technical decisions in software architecture, requirements, design, and testing that positively influence product quality, scalability, and feature performance.

Ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs by reviewing and providing constructive feedback on the work of less‑experienced developers and testers.

Lead smaller projects or take ownership of complex components or systems, operating independently with full accountability while navigating ambiguity and evolving requirements.

Drive continuous improvement across the function by leading enhancements to tools, processes, and systems, and by coordinating work among technicians, student employees, and junior engineers.

Serve as a trusted technical specialist within the team by providing guidance on technical direction, sharing knowledge, and continuously building proficiency in critical technology and competency areas.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Apply strong systems and requirements discipline by translating stakeholder needs into clear, traceable, and verifiable system requirements, managing changes across the lifecycle, and using systems thinking to define scope, interfaces, risks, and trade‑offs.

Design and validate high‑quality software and platforms by building reliable PC/mobile tools, developing balanced and scalable product architectures, and leading verification and validation activities to ensure solutions meet capability, quality, and future market needs.

Make sound decisions in complex environments by synthesizing large amounts of technical and business information, assessing alternatives through data‑driven analysis, managing risk, and delivering results under ambiguity and time pressure.

Collaborate, communicate, and influence effectively by building strong internal and external networks, tailoring communications to diverse audiences, valuing different perspectives, and resourcefully aligning people and resources to move initiatives forward.
