Responsibilities
- Prepare fabricated parts, assemblies, and components for painting by cleaning, sanding, masking, and performing all required surface preparation activities.
- Apply coatings, primers, and finishes to Prefabrication assemblies in accordance with project requirements, product specifications, and company standards.
- Ensure finished surfaces meet visual, coverage, adhesion, and durability expectations prior to release.
- Safely operate paint booth systems, spray equipment, mixing equipment, and related tools used in coating operations.
- Mix and prepare coatings in accordance with manufacturer instructions and shop requirements.
- Monitor booth conditions, airflow, and equipment readiness to ensure proper application and finish quality.
- Maintain paint equipment, hoses, guns, and related tools in good working condition.
- Inspect painted assemblies for defects including runs, thin coverage, contamination, poor adhesion, or finish inconsistencies.
- Correct deficiencies as required to ensure finished products meet shop and customer expectations.
- Maintain consistent workmanship and finish quality across all coated materials and assemblies.
- Communicate any issues that may impact appearance, quality, or production flow.
- Coordinate with Welding, Assembly, and Project Coordination teams to ensure work is painted and released in alignment with production schedules.
- Support staging, movement, and handling of materials into and out of the paint area.
- Prioritize paint work based on production schedules, project deadlines, and downstream needs.
- Assist in reducing delays and maintaining smooth flow through the finishing process.
- Follow all safety procedures related to painting operations, including PPE, ventilation, chemical handling, and fire prevention practices.
- Comply with environmental requirements, material handling guidelines, and company policies related to paint and coating operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area that supports efficient and compliant operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training in painting, coatings, or finishing is a plus.
- 2 years of hands-on experience in industrial painting, coating application, or finishing operations, preferably in a manufacturing or prefabrication environment.
- Experience operating spray booths, mixing equipment, and related paint application tools.
- Ability to lift, move, and position materials or assemblies safely.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks in a paint booth environment.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise application of coatings and surface prep.
- Understanding of safe chemical handling, PPE use, ventilation, and fire prevention related to paint operations.
- Knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements for paint, coating, and waste disposal.
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and compliant workspace.
