Position Summary
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization.
This position supports daily accounting operations, ensures compliance with nonprofit
accounting standards, and assists with financial reporting and budgeting processes. The ideal
candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about supporting mission-driven work.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor grant budgets and assist with grant reporting requirements
- Assist with payroll processing and benefits tracking
- Prepare financial reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders
- Support annual audit and tax preparation (Form 990)
- Maintain accurate financial records, including journal entries and general ledger reconciliation
- Process accounts receivable transactions
- Assist external CPA with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency
- Maintain non profit licensing, compliance, and insurance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2–4 years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred)
- Knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with nonprofit accounting practices is a plus
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with financial grant management and non-profit accounting
- CPA or progress toward certification is a plus
- Interest in the environment is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range $60,000-$75,000, based on experience
