This position will work in Judge-Elect Sasha Sacavage's Chambers.
Job Summary:
To assist Judge with secretarial and administrative duties of department involving complex litigation, policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
Analyze legal filings to determine necessary collateral documents the reviewing Judge needs to act on the filing and provide same; prepare proposed orders for the Judge.
Analyze the record to present the procedural history to the reviewing Judge in preparation of legal rulings, identify outstanding motions, present prior rulings that may affect future rulings, and track prior filings to ensure cases are handled timely.
Performs day-to-day operations of the judicial schedule, including case management. This includes but is not limited to, scheduling, rescheduling and notifying all interested parties; and becoming familiar with files of all cases and other matters assigned to each individual judge and be aware of any action required and preparing for hearings by assembling legal records and other needed information, including previous appeals, rulings and other pertinent documents.
Takes, transcribes and types legal dictation, including legal opinions, briefs, decrees, memos, etc. and prepares, copies and distributes correspondence, forms, reports and orders. Proofreads judicial opinions and orders prepared by law clerks and puts them in final form.
Greet the general public, jurors, internal and external departments, answer phones and assist with procedural questions and inquiries.
Coordinates schedules and maintains records for all specialty courts such as dependency, delinquency, I.P., DUI ARD, Non-DUI ARD, drug treatment court and arbitrations.
Review case management to determine what level of judicial interaction, if any, is needed.
Controls access to the Judge by members of the general public, in person or by phone.
Minimum Requirements to Perform the Work:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus business/legal secretarial training required, including excellent computer, organizational and communication skills. Some knowledge of legal terminology and preparation of legal documents required. Associate’s degree or paralegal training preferred.
Work Experience:
5 years working experience in law office environment. Or, any equivalent combination of experience/training required.
Current county employees would follow the county's promotion/demotion policy.
