What are the responsibilities and job description for the Department IT Support Specialist I position at Cumberland County?
The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for the computer and video systems of the Sheriff's Office. This includes hardware and software installation, upgrades and troubleshooting. This support also includes end-user support and training.
Information Technology (IT) has overall responsibility for procurement, support, maintenance, and system security for all desktop systems, laptops, faxes, printers, network hardware, network servers, and all software products. IT maintains internet and local area network (LAN) communications for all systems including mobile users. Provides technical assistance through telephone and on-site presence; provides troubleshooting; trains individuals; configures and installs systems/software. Web page development and maintaining of organizations web page. Act as liaison with vendors for purchases, repairs, and maintenance contracts.

- Installs, troubleshoots and repairs computer systems' hardware and peripheral equipment, personal computers, workstations, printers, servers, facsimile machines, cables, etc.
- Provides user support and/or training as needed.
- Maintains anti-virus server and all client-side installations; Notifies supervisor of virus outbreaks detected on computer systems. Maintains Jail video Visitation system, Courthouse video arraignment system, and video surveillance systems at all locations.
- Maintains information about equipment and installations; Maintains database of computer system repairs and problem resolutions.
- Troubleshoots network connectivity; Terminates CAT 5/6 cabling as needed
- Troubleshoots and assists users with Records Management and Jail Management systems.
- Obtains pricing information from vendors; prepares bid documentation for computers and related equipment; Identifies software uses and recommends packages.
- Assists in the maintenance of computer systems and in updating computer software; Responsible for providing daily preventative maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Vocational/technical degree with training emphasis in computer science, electronics or a related field; supplemented by five (5) years’ experience and/or training that includes installing, maintaining and repairing computer hardware and related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
