What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office BLET Deputy Cadet Fall 2024 position at Cumberland County?
This position is for a Deputy Sheriff Cadet in the Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
Once hired, the applicant will be considered a Deputy Sheriff Cadet. Continued employment is contingent upon graduation from Basic Law Enforcement Training class (BLET) as a certified Law Enforcement Officer. Upon BLET graduation the deputy cadet will become a Probationary Deputy and will receive full Deputy pay.
Deputy Sheriff this position will perform professional sworn law enforcement duties to protect the citizens and property in Cumberland County. Each Deputy Sheriff will receive general supervision in daily activities, with more difficult situations performed under the direct supervision or in conjunction with either a Deputy Sheriff Corporal or Deputy Sheriff Sergeant.

- Performs general law enforcement duties to include patrolling the County during an assigned shift in a vehicle, on a motorcycle or on a bike.
- Preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crimes.
- Serving various civil and criminal papers.
- Responding to calls; apprehending suspects.
- Transporting suspects and criminals to the Cumberland County Detention Center, other detention and mental health facilities.
- Performing K-9 duties.
- Participating in community policing functions.
- Assisting other law enforcement agencies with investigations and emergencies.
- Rendering appropriate aid and executing related assignments.
- Work involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness, and decisiveness.
- Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation, discussion, and review of reports for adherence to laws, department procedures, and proper judgment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be a US Citizen
- Be 20 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Live within a 40-mile radius of Cumberland County Sheriff's Office
- Be able to perform all essential job functions of an inexperienced officer, unassisted and at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job requirements.
- Have a valid North Carolina driver's license with a good driving record.
- Have no serious criminal history.
- Meet or exceed Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Candidate must be able to pass a comprehensive Background Investigation, Modified Popat Exam, Polygraph Examination, Psychological Examination, complete Medical Examination, and Drug Screen
