This position is located in the Children Services section.Â
The Youth Program Assistant II will directly supervise the youth served by the Group Care Program; will implement a residential treatment program for the Group Home, which is operated by the Department; will operate the home assuring the health, safety, and well-being of the youth residing in the home using all health, fire, and sanitation standards set forth in the licensing standards; will develop and implement an individualized plan of care for each resident in the program, monitoring the progress of the plan of care and goals during the child's stay in the home.
The employee in this full-time position must be flexible to change hours as needed. Work hours will include overnight and weekends, as well as day shifts.MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Â High school graduation and three years of experience working with emotionally or mentally handicapped clients with emphasis on behavioral management, preferably with one year of such experience being with children and youth; OR an associate degree in a human service field, and two years of experience working with emotionally or mentally handicapped clients with emphasis on behavioral management, preferably with one year of such experience being with children or youth; OR a four-year degree and one year of experience working with emotionally or mentally handicapped clients, with emphasis on behavioral management; OR a four-year degree in a human service field. Â General knowledge of behavioral, emotional and socioeconomic problems of children and their treatment is required. Ability to apply counseling techniques to problems in both individual and group sessions.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Â The selected applicant will be subject to the following conditions prior to appointment. Failure to complete or fulfill these conditions may result in dismissal.

Refusal to submit to testing or a confirmed positive test shall be a basis for withdrawal of the conditional employment offer. Law enforcement background check is required. Has or is able to obtain a valid North Carolina Drivers License. This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations.Â
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a strict dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related tattoos and body piercing.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  The selected applicant for this position will be responsible for obtaining a pre-employment physical at their own expense.  Additionally, a TB test and medical history form must be completed prior to employment.  Must be able to attend and complete CPR/First Aid within the first 30 days of employment.  Documentation of education is required.
