What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Advocate position at Cumbee Center?
Crisis Advocates are often the first responders within our agency. A crisis advocate seeks to understand each client's unique circumstances and personal preferences and goals and incorporate them into the crisis response to help the client regain a sense of control.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and respond to activity at entry doors
- Promptly address difficulties or problems; mediates and de-escalates
- Provide advocacy and support to victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children
- Respond to incoming calls from victims, advocates, service providers and the general public.
- Answer incoming crisis calls, provide intervention and referrals as necessary.
- Respond to callers in compliance with Cumbee Center hotline training, rules and protocols.
- Communicate information concerning client matters to appropriate staff
- Ensure required documentation, including client records, service reports and administrative paperwork are thoroughly completed and timely.
- Understand hospital response protocols
- Provide hospital accompaniment and follow up to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This includes on-call.
- Assist clients by scheduling and guiding clients access to services.
- Take appropriate steps to inventory products, materials and supplies; restock when necessary
- Network with community agencies to remain updated on resources available to clients and establish an awareness of Cumbee Centers mission
- Actively participate in the Sexual Assault Response Team.
- Serve as a liaison for the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
- Participate on the on-call schedule as staff backup for volunteers.
- Represent Cumbee Center in the community and conduct presentations as required
- Maintain a neat and orderly work atmosphere and environment
- Attend monthly staff meetings, every first Tuesday at the Main Office and required trainings

Ability to clearly communicate with others; ability to work in complex situations and manage multiple tasks and crisis situations; ability to maintain and promote positive working relationships within Cumbee Center; good understanding of domestic and sexual violence and its effects of clients and their families; effective use of time and resources to help maintain quality services. Ability to lift and transport supplies or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
