The Development Director leads CUMAC’s fundraising, donor engagement, marketing, and grant management efforts. This role drives a coordinated, data-informed strategy to support and grow a $2.9M annual revenue portfolio.
Reporting to the CEO, the Development Director supervises the Marketing & Volunteer Lead and a contracted Grant Writer. This role manages donor relationships, grant performance, and messaging alignment across the organization, with an emphasis on building and growing a budding individual giving program.
The Development Director is both strategic and hands-on—responsible for building systems, strengthening relationships, and ensuring consistent execution across all development functions.
Responsibilities
Fundraising & Strategy
- Lead fundraising strategy across individual, corporate, foundation, and government revenue, partnering with the CEO and Board
- Manage a $2.9M portfolio with clear goals and tracking systems
- Maintain an annual fundraising and communications calendar
- Plan and execute an annual fundraising event and a volunteer appreciation event, and open houses and other small events
Grants Management
- Supervise the contracted Grant Writer and partner with them to:
- Manage full grant lifecycle: research, submission, tracking, reporting
- Maintain and update the grant calendar, ensuring all deadlines and deliverables are met
- Prepare and oversee accurate, timely grant reports
- Develop and help monitor grant budgets in partnership with the finance team
Individual Giving
- Manage donor pipeline: identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship

- Maintain and manage the donor database (Donor Perfect)
- Use data to segment, track performance, and drive fundraising strategy
- Maintain systems to gather accurate records and reporting tools for funders and partners
Marketing & Communication
- Oversee marketing and communications
- Ensure clear, consistent messaging across all channels
- Translate program impact into donor-facing content
Leadership & External Engagement
- Represent CUMAC at community events, speaking engagements, and donor meetings
- Serve as a visible ambassador for the organization with funders and partners
- Partner with leadership and program staff to align messaging and outcomes
Qualifications
- 5–8 years in nonprofit fundraising
- Proven success with individual donor cultivation
- Experience with grants, reporting, budgeting, and compliance
- Proficient with CRM systems (Donor Perfect preferred)
- Experience with government grant systems (SAGE a plus)
- Strong organization, communication, and follow-through
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
