POSITION TITLE : RN/CTE Instructor
QUALIFICATIONS: RN Licensure and State teaching certificate in area of instructional responsibility
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Nursing Supervisor
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

RN POSITION PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:
- Coordinate and collaborate with Cullman City School nurses as needed.
- Maintain and stock medical and first aid supplies and equipment for the health room.
- Provide first aid for students as needed and provide written notification to parents and principal or assistant when deemed necessary.
- Document first aid performed to include:
- time and length of visit
- nature of illness/injury
- treatment performed
- were parents notified/attempted notification, but failed/ parent response
- copy any written notification sent home and document it was sent
- disposition of child (returned to class/to office/to home)
- Provide medication, diet prescription, and other related forms (see School Health Services Manual) to teachers.
- Monitor medication permission forms paying special attention to signatures, date of birth, height and weight. Verbal permission from a parent will not be accepted. The student must also provide his/her own medication. No over-the-counter medication will be provided by the school.
- Count medications that are brought to school, along with the person bringing in the medication. Both parties should then sign the proper form (see School Health Services Manual).
- Adhere to state policies regarding administration of medications, both prescription and over-the-counter.
- Store and dispense all medication in the nurse’s office. The nurse should have access to drinking water in the health room so that the child can be observed while taking the medication. The student should not be allowed to leave the room with the medication. Exceptions to this include some Epipens and inhalers.
- Document all medications on the appropriate form. (See School Health Services Manual.)
- Assist with health screenings as necessary, if time allows.
- Monitor immunization forms and notify parents of impending expiration date. Two weeks notification may be given for parents to bring blue slip up to date. After that time, the principal should be notified and the student should be excluded from school until the
situation is resolved. The nurse/principal should devise system to notify parents prior to expiration date.
- Devise a system to identify students with religious or medical exemptions. If an outbreak of disease occurs, the Cullman County Health Department should be notified and will determine if exclusion is needed.
- Act as a resource person regarding health matters and topics.
- Provide individualized health instructions to students, parents, and school personnel as needed or requested.
- Be available as a resource for parent/teacher conferences with focus on health issues.
- Give classroom presentations upon request for students and school personnel.
- Act as liaison between education personnel and community professionals.
- Assist in writing and implementation of emergency plans for students with diabetes, allergies requiring the use of Epipen, inhalers, seizures, or any other life threatening condition.
- Provide training for teachers and other staff on administration of Epipen.
- Assist in providing staff with instructions regarding students with chronic or acute health conditions.
- Assist with prevention and control of communicable diseases following Cullman City School policy regarding treatment and exclusion from school.
- Assist in providing verification of head lice and education on proper methods of screening and identification. The initial screening should be done by the nurse.
- Provide head lice clearance for return to school.
- Assist the school counselor and the Department of Human Resources regarding cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
- RN will supervise and assist all LPN’s employed by Cullman City Schools as determined by RN Supervisor/Central Office administrator.
- Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively with the Board, the Superintendent, administrators, certificated and non-certificated personnel, parents, and students.
- Attends all meetings as required by the Superintendent.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
CTE INSTRUCTOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:
- Determines individual and class needs.
- Supervises students in educational settings.
- Establishes objectives and develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs and abilities of students.
- Develops instructional activities that are consistent with local and state courses of study and curriculum guides.
- Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
- Assesses student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and student outcomes and maintains appropriate evaluation documentation.
- Communicates to students and parents/guardians (either in writing or verbally) instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.
- Assists in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
- Participates as needed in IEP meetings for IDEA students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and in other areas of the school.
- Actively participates in and works with other school personnel in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials and participates in the planning of effective instructional goals, objectives, methods, and curriculum.
- Exhibits positive human relations skills.
- Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
- Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
- Maintains proper certification by attending college, workshop and professional development courses.
- Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively with the Board, the Superintendent, administrators, certificated and non-certificated personnel, parents, and students.
- Attends all faculty meetings, PTA meetings, and other meetings as required by the Superintendent.
- Performs co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and other school related duties (hall, lunchroom, playground, drop-off and pick-up, bus, etc.) as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls.
- The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel.
- The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
