Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for Packaging Engineer 2. The work will be done onsite full-time in Sanford, NC, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a long-term 24-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $34.39/hr full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer to design, validate, and optimize packaging solutions for new and existing machine components. This role focuses on ensuring part protection, cost competitiveness, transport efficiency, and line-side usability across manufacturing and supply network operations. The engineer will collaborate closely with product engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and suppliers to deliver packaging designs that support quality, safety, and operational efficiency. This position is ideal for someone who excels in 3D modeling, packaging design, and cross-functional project execution.
Key Responsibilities
• Design packaging solutions ensuring part containment, protection, and optimization for transportation and storage
• Support NPI by developing packaging for new machine components in coordination with engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and suppliers
• Validate new packaging and containers during pilot builds and resolve safety or quality issues with existing designs
• Conduct containerization analysis, quoting, and transport-efficiency evaluations
• Develop packaging for kitting, sequencing, and ergonomic line-side delivery
• Manage repair and maintenance of returnable packaging fleets
• Review supplier proposals, drawings, and specs to evaluate feasibility, cost, and timing
• Communicate with receiving, warehousing, and assembly teams on packaging issues and improvements
• Lead medium- to high-risk project initiatives within product and logistics groups
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering preferred; Mechanical, Industrial, or Supply Chain Engineering accepted
• 2 years of experience in packaging engineering, transportation packaging, or related fields
• Experience with 3D modeling and tools such as Creo
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and packaging modeling software
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently while driving department goals and deliverables
Preferred Qualifications
• Project management experience, including Green Belt–level initiatives
• Experience in manufacturing environments or production packaging
• Ability to analyze and optimize line-side storage, ergonomics, and handling systems
• Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate at management levels
