Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for Controls Engineer 4. The work will be done onsite full-time in Alpharetta, GA, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This is a long-term 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $62.61/hr full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a highly experienced Controls Engineer to design, develop, install, and maintain control systems for custom switchgear and generator control applications. This engineer will support end-to-end electrical design schedules, participate in testing and commissioning activities, and analyze system requirements to deliver high-quality, reliable control solutions. The role includes troubleshooting hardware, optimizing plant processes, and ensuring all work meets safety and regulatory expectations. This position is ideal for an engineer with strong PLC programming experience, switchgear design knowledge, and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in creating and managing electrical design schedules from concept through system completion
• Test, evaluate, modify, and calibrate control products, equipment, and instrumentation
• Analyze plant processes and implement improvements in system functionality and efficiency
• Troubleshoot issues involving hardware, PLC controls, and electrical processes
• Perform technical calculations supporting design requirements, including electrical sizing, motor controls, and safety standards
• Ensure all safety, compliance, and legal objectives are met for all design work
• Provide direction to CAD designers for wiring and assembly drawings
• Create PLC programs for generator paralleling switchgear using IEC 61131 languages
• Execute and support design, testing, manufacturing, and commissioning of low/medium-voltage switchgear systems
• Interact with internal and external customers to meet project milestones
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Engineering (required; no 2-year degrees accepted)
• 8–10 years of experience in controls engineering
• Strong PLC programming expertise (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text, or other IEC 61131 languages)
• Generator paralleling and switchgear design/control panel design experience
• Experience designing, testing, and commissioning control systems with multi-platform PLC environments
• Expert ability to work independently, manage time, and lead project tasks
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and customer service orientation
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of NEC, UL 508, UL 891, UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI standards for switchgear controls
• Understanding of protective relays and their functions for generator and utility protection
• Experience with PLC platforms such as Schneider (Momentum/M340/M580), AB ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Woodward MSLC/DSLC, EasyGen, LS5 architecture
• Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to interpret customer specifications and drawings
