Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Freight Broker role based in Charlotte, NC. The Freight Broker will coordinate daily transportation for food products, ingredients, equipment, and supplies, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery to meet culinary and event needs. Responsibilities include sourcing and qualifying carriers, negotiating rates, booking loads, and tracking shipments from pickup to delivery. The role involves maintaining constant communication with carriers and internal stakeholders, resolving delivery issues, and proactively addressing delays, damages, or route changes. The Freight Broker will also manage load documentation, update transportation management systems, and analyze freight costs to support budgeting and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in freight brokerage, logistics coordination, or transportation management, preferably in foodservice, hospitality, or perishable goods.
- Strong skills in carrier sourcing, rate negotiation, load booking, and shipment tracking with the ability to manage multiple loads and deadlines.
- Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS), load boards, and basic office software (e.g., spreadsheets, email, and document tools).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills to work effectively with carriers, vendors, and internal culinary and operations teams.
- Solid understanding of freight regulations, basic contract terms, and documentation requirements (e.g., BOLs, carrier agreements, proof of delivery).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
- High level of integrity, reliability, and problem-solving ability, with a commitment to safety and product quality during transport.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in logistics, supply chain, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience with temperature-controlled or time-sensitive shipments is beneficial.
