Staff Electrical Engineer – Industrial Power & Control Systems
South Windsor, Connecticut | $140,000–$165,000 | Hybrid
An established manufacturer of industrial power generation equipment is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to take a leading technical role in the design, specification and integration of electrical power and control systems.
You'll work across complete electrical systems, from power distribution and component sizing through to PLC/SCADA integration, factory acceptance testing and commissioning.
The products are stationary fuel cell power plants, but fuel cell experience is not necessary. The priority is substantial experience designing and delivering complex industrial electrical systems.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role, with technical mentoring responsibilities rather than people management.
What you'll be doing
- Design and develop LV/MV power distribution and industrial control systems.
- Size, specify and select transformers, control panels, power conversion equipment, VFDs, UPS systems, breakers, relays and associated components.
- Develop and review single-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams and electrical specifications.
- Oversee the electrical integration of PLC/SCADA systems, instrumentation and controls.
- Perform or review electrical calculations, cable sizing, arc flash assessments and design risk analysis.
- Evaluate vendor designs, equipment specifications and electrical component selections.
- Take technical ownership of electrical system integration, FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical issues and support product improvements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.
What we're looking for
Ideally, you'll bring 10 years' experience in industrial electrical engineering, with particular depth in:
- Electrical power distribution, system architecture and equipment sizing.
- Control panel design and industrial electrical integration.
- Transformers, power supplies, power conversion equipment and electrical protection.
- PLC/SCADA integration and industrial instrumentation.
- Electrical design documentation using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
- NEC, NFPA 70E, UL, IEEE or related standards.
- FAT, SAT, commissioning and complex electrical troubleshooting.
Experience with industrial power electronics and power conversion systems would be particularly valuable.
Exposure to ETAP, PSCAD or PSS®E would be an advantage.
Relevant backgrounds include industrial automation, power generation, energy storage, electrical equipment manufacturing and other complex industrial electrical systems.
An Electrical Engineering degree is expected.
The priority is proven experience taking complex electrical systems from design through integration and commissioning.
Working arrangements
- Salary: $140,000–$165,000
- Location: South Windsor, CT
- Hybrid: One day per week from home after an initial settling-in period
- Travel: Approximately 5%
