What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Clerk - I position at CU Hawaii Federal Credit Union?
Job Summary
Follow detailed and standardized procedures in performing routine accounting clerical operations. Perform a variety of support duties related to the accounting function within the credit union.
Duties
1. Perform a variety of activities to assist the department in maintaining the financial, statistical, and accounting records of the credit union.
2. Enter data into accounting systems and assist in generating reports and financial statements on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
3. Journalize all necessary transactions and make sure everything is in balance.
4. Post general ledger entries, and proof totals with the general ledger system. File and store general ledger journals daily.
5. Assist with daily bank reconciliations of CU’s operating accounts, cashier checks reconciliations, and processing wire transactions.
6. Assist with daily cash flow analysis reporting.
7. Prepare monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
8. Assist with processing accounts payable transactions and ordering branch supplies.
9. Maintain working knowledge of various accounting software programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Accounting Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
2. Quick learner of software - for use of Credit Union or other computer-based accounting systems
3. Team player and contributor with a positive attitude
4. Effective written and oral communication skills
5. Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks while under strict deadlines and constant interruptions
6. Ability to think analytically and consider the facts, rules, policies, and procedures
7. Detail-oriented
8. Willingness to learn and be coachable
9. Demonstrates an ability and desire to thrive in a challenging, fast paced work environment
10. Possesses high level of discretion and the ability to handle confidential information concerning members as well as staff
Experience
- High School diploma or equivalency. AA in Accounting or in a related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience working in accounting, bookkeeping, or general office/admin support. Accounting background and experience with accounting systems preferred.
