In this mobile role, you’ll bring your expertise to customer sites to diagnose, repair, and maintain complex equipment — keeping essential infrastructure projects on schedule.

What a day in the field looks like

You start your morning with a call from the Service Manager reviewing the day’s assignments. With manuals and service bulletins at your fingertips and your laptop connected to diagnostics, you head to customer locations to:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair truck chassis and tracked/vehicle-mounted aerial devices, digger derricks, cranes, hi-rail units, and related equipment to dealer/factory standards.
  • Interpret service manuals and repair orders; use diagnostic software and test equipment for precise evaluation.
  • Diagnose and repair LMI (Load Moment Indicator) systems and CAN bus networks.
  • Perform electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting on utility trucks and specialty equipment.
  • Complete adjustments and repairs both in the field and at the service center; road test to verify fixes.
  • Document work thoroughly: inspection findings, labor time, parts usage/costs, and timecards.
  • Tag and manage warranty and core components for return.
  • Immediately flag scope changes — additional work, unnecessary tasks, or timeline impacts — to the Service Manager.
  • Follow all CTOS safety practices; participate in company and OEM training.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste handling and disposal.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to minimize downtime.
  • Travel outside your regular coverage area when business needs arise.
  • Partner closely with the Service Manager to elevate customer satisfaction and service quality.
Qualifications you’ll bring
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5 years of related technician experience (both shop and field).

Preferred know-how
  • Electrical, schematic/blueprint reading, hydraulics, and welding.
  • Experience with QuickServe, DTNA, or similar diagnostic applications.
  • Familiarity with DOT, ANSI, and dielectric testing.
Physical demands and work environment
  • Regular outdoor work in wet/humid conditions; occasional exposure to extreme heat/cold; moderate to loud noise.
  • Professionalism, positive attitude, and consistent, on-time attendance.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull; bend and stoop; lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort working at height and performing manual labor.
