Field Service Technician - Utility Truck & Aerial Systems

CTOS - Trucks & Equipment
Hilo, HI Other
POSTED ON 5/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/1/2026
Step into a day where your expertise keeps critical fleets moving

It’s sunrise on the Big Island or Oahu. You roll out in a fully outfitted utility service truck—crane swinging into place, welder and compressor ready, laptop booted—headed to a jobsite where a bucket truck needs to be back online before crews start. You diagnose, repair, and verify. A quick call with the customer, a note in the repair order, and you’re on to the next challenge. That’s a typical day as a Field Service Technician with Custom Truck One Source (CTOS), a 30-year industry leader with 40 locations across the U.S. and Canada.

What you’ll tackle
  • Own on-site support for truck-mounted utility equipment—service, boom, and bucket trucks—as well as forestry and other vocational units.
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and field diagnostics to minimize downtime.
  • Interpret schematics, manuals, and repair orders to plan effective fixes.
  • Use laptops and diagnostic software to pinpoint issues accurately.
  • Document all work precisely: repair orders, timecards, inspection forms.
  • Coordinate with customers and CTOS teams to schedule and complete work efficiently.
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, DOT/ANSI, and regulatory standards.
  • Travel within (and occasionally beyond) your assigned island territory.
  • Engage in ongoing CTOS and OEM training to sharpen your craft.
What equips you for success
  • Company-provided utility service truck equipped with a crane, welder, and compressor.
  • Company phone, computer, and diagnostic tools.
  • You bring mechanical know-how, your own tools, and a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)—we’ll handle the rest.
  • Registered Certified Mechanic (diesel, heavy on-road equipment) credential issued by the Hawaii DCCA.
Why you’ll thrive here
  • Independence in the field with the backing of a seasoned team.
  • Hands-on problem solving across hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Variety—no two days or job sites are the same.
  • Customer-facing impact that keeps essential services running.
Preferred capabilities
  • Electrical and hydraulic systems, welding, and blueprint/schematic reading.
  • Experience with diagnostic software (e.g., QuickServe, DTNA).
  • Background with DOT, ANSI, and dielectric testing.
Minimum requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5 years of relevant experience as a field or shop technician.
  • Registered Certified Mechanic (diesel, on-road heavy equipment) issued by Hawaii DCCA.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL Class B preferred.
  • Personal set of mechanic tools.
Compensation and benefits
  • Competitive pay based on experience, with overtime opportunities.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
  • Short‑term and long‑term disability.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Uniforms plus safety boot and glasses allowance.
  • Tool discount programs.
  • Ongoing employee development and training investment.
