Role Overview
The Water Truck Driver plays a key role within CTL Forestry field operations by ensuring effective dust control, road maintenance, and water distribution across active project sites. This position reports to the Field Supervisor and supports forestry crews to maintain safe and efficient working conditions.
This role does not have direct reports but requires strong coordination with field teams and equipment operators.
What You Will Do
- Operate a water truck safely and efficiently to support forestry and field operations across project sites.
- Perform dust control and road maintenance activities by applying water to roads, landing areas, and work zones.
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine inspections to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Monitor water levels and refill the truck as needed to maintain continuous operations.
- Follow all DOT regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety standards.
- Coordinate with supervisors and field crews to prioritize watering schedules and site needs.
- Maintain accurate logs of daily operations, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and report mechanical issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in hauling and moving equipment as needed to support operations.
- Perform support tasks outside of water truck operations, including assisting crews with various duties based on project needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or relevant field experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating water trucks or similar heavy equipment.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Proven ability to safely operate heavy equipment in forestry, construction, or similar environments.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including extended hours and weekends based on project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in forestry operations or land management projects.
- Familiarity with off-road and rugged terrain driving conditions.
- Basic mechanical skills for troubleshooting and minor equipment repairs.
- OSHA or other relevant safety certifications.
What to Expect
This is a field-based, project-driven role that requires working outdoors in dynamic and often remote forestry environments throughout California. Work schedules may vary depending on project demands and can include long hours, weekends, and travel between job sites.
You will spend most of your day operating equipment, supporting crew activities, and ensuring site conditions remain safe and compliant. Work conditions can include exposure to dust, uneven terrain, heavy machinery, and changing weather conditions.
Flexibility is essential, as you may be asked to support tasks beyond water truck operation—including hauling equipment and assisting with general project work—to help ensure successful project execution. Strong teamwork, accountability, and a safety-first mindset are critical for success in this role.
