Logging Operator

Job Summary:

Safely operate heavy equipment performing harvesting, tree removal, earthwork, and debris cleanup.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Operate an excavator, bulldozer, wheel loader, wheel loader with grapple or log fork, track skid loader, logging harvester, chipper, industrial shredder, grapple skidder, log loader, track chipper, skid steer, sennebogen, masticator, tree handler wheel and track, forwarder, grader, feller buncher, and spider lift.
• Run equipment to the company and manufacturers' standards.
• Work in adherence to safe practices, procedures, work site or traffic laws.
• Move levers and depress pedals to manoeuvre equipment.
• Function in a strenuous and dangerous work environment in varying terrains and environmental conditions.
• Complete work projects on time and in an effective manner.
• Grease, oil, and perform minor repairs. Fuel and service equipment as required.
• Inform and advise management or the repair technician of major repairs or maintenance.
• Perform daily inspections and maintenance evaluations/checks on all equipment before and after use.
• Perform loading and unloading of heavy equipment. If qualified, may be required to transport equipment.
• Maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers.
• Understand and perform various daily and weekly assignments from oral or written communication.
• Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
• Adhere to all company safety standards/policies and applicable OSHA regulations.
• Maintain certification and qualification to work within the minimum approach distance of energized power lines.
• Must be able to regularly lift 50 lbs or more
• Must be able to work outdoors, year-round, in varying environments
• Must be able to work in, around, and amongst poisonous plants and noxious vegetation
• Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

• 2-3 years or more of experience in operating logging or heavy equipment.
• Competent in required job skills and knowledge.
• Use equipment and materials properly.
• Follow instructions and respond to management direction.
• Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
• Meet productivity standards and complete work in a timely manner.
• Prioritize and plan work activities.
• Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
• Observe safety and security procedures; use equipment and materials properly.
• Consistently at work and on time.

Desired Qualifications:

• Commercial Class A (or B) license
• Exhibit sound and accurate judgment.
• Equipment repair or maintenance certification
• Commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Sites can be very hot and dusty.
