CTI Cutting Dies is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Die Maker to join our growing second-shift team in Elmhurst, Illinois. This hands-on manufacturing role is responsible for constructing, assembling, modifying, and repairing steel rule cutting dies and related tooling used in the packaging and print industries. The ideal candidate takes pride in their craftsmanship, enjoys working with precision equipment, and understands that quality and accuracy are critical to customer success. This position works closely with CAD, Production, Customer Service, and Shipping teams to ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and safety.
What You'll Do
Fabricate, assemble, repair, and modify steel rule cutting dies, stripping fixtures, and related tooling according to customer requirements and company standards. Operate manual and automated rule-bending equipment, rubbering equipment, blanking and stripping equipment, and other tools necessary to complete high-quality dies. Cut, bend, notch, grind, and install steel rule into die boards while maintaining strict tolerances and alignment requirements. Add and modify wood components as required by job specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and customer specifications, verifying accuracy and resolving discrepancies before production begins. Perform quality inspections throughout the build process, identify non-conformances, and complete necessary rework to ensure customer expectations are met. Execute revisions and modifications to existing dies when customer requirements change. Utilize shop-floor systems and ERP tools for job tracking, scanning, reporting, and time entry. Support customer tooling activities, perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment, maintain an organized work area, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and waste reduction. Senior-level Die Makers may also assist with training and mentoring newer team members.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one year of die-making, die-cutting, or related manufacturing experience. One to three years of experience is preferred. Technical, trade school, or vocational training related to die making, machining, or manufacturing is a plus. Applicants should be able to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications and accurately use measurement tools such as tape measures. Experience operating die-cutting equipment, including Bobst machines, as well as manual and automated rule-bending systems such as Serviform or EasyBender, is highly desirable. Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with manufacturing or shop-floor tracking systems are required. Candidates must be willing and able to work a consistent second-shift schedule.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position requires standing for extended periods on a manufacturing floor, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and repetitive hand motions, and the ability to lift up to 65 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance. Employees work around manufacturing equipment, moving machinery, moderate-to-high noise levels, dust, rubber materials, and occasional solvent exposure. Safety glasses and closed-toe footwear are required at all times, along with any additional personal protective equipment designated for specific workstations. Overtime may be required based on production schedules and customer demand.
