CTE HVAC, ELECTRICAL, & PLUMBING TEACHER (CONSTANTINE)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The CTE HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing Instructor drives student success by delivering highly engaging trade education to high school students across the St. Joseph County CTE Consortium.  Following the Michigan Department of Education – Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) framework, the instructor prepares students for SkillsUSA competitions, industry certifications, and future career placement.  Key Objectives for the position include:  Deliver Engaging Hands-On Learning:  Provide engaging classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience focused on installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.  Build the future workforce:  empower students with marketable job skills necessary to thrive in high-demand skilled trades. 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Career Technical Education (or related field).
• Previous teaching experience or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the duties of this position in (CIP Code 47.0201 or 48,0508) or related CTE program; OR
• If none of the above qualifications are met, then 4,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience within the last 10 years in the HVAC, electrical, or plumbing field may suffice to become eligible for the Michigan Department of Education Annual Career Authorization (ACA).
• State licensure or industry certifications in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing, preferred.
• Mechanical Contractor License, preferred.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification, preferred.
• Experience supervising employees, apprentices, or trainees, preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of industry standards, safety practices, and current technologies.
• A passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of skilled trades professionals
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certification(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
• Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.

Performance DUTIES & Responsibilities:

1. Perform the primary role of a leader of learning for CTE HVAC/Electrical/Plumbing students.
2. Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrates.
3. Guide and lead students to successful preparation for Skills USDA competitions.
4. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
5. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, with classroom and lab style learning, using demonstration and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
6. Provide work-based learning activities that reinforce learning.
7. Promote ongoing interaction between pupils and businesses to strengthen the relationship between schools and community.
8. Develop and implement instructional plans which will allow students to meet established standards of student achievement and focus on basic workplace and job-specific sills in preparation for career placement.
9. Assist in the maintenance of supplies and equipment assigned, including but not limited to inventory of supplies and equipment, supervising the use of supplies and equipment, and instruction on the proper use of supplies and operation of equipment.
10. Ability to work safely in the learning lab.
11. Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
12. Ability to follow and model all OSHA and district safety precautions and procedures.
13. Teach students the correct and safe operation of all tools and equipment.
14. Other duties as assigned by ISD Administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   This is a Non-Union, 191-day position.  Terms and other conditions of employment established by the Board of Education.

Salary : $45,936 - $85,956
