PRODUCTION ENGINEER


2. Purpose of the function: 

 

Is the key technical person for the Roxell USA operations. The production engineer oversees

and optimizes processes, equipment (incl. facilities), and systems to meet production goals and quality standards.  

The production engineer is responsible for setting the production standards (in concert with Innovations), setting the standard work for production and maintaining the maintenance program. The production engineer is also responsible for capital expenditure projects including justification, execution, and reporting on capital projects.

The candidate role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities.

The candidate role is dynamic and requires adaptability to ever-changing production environments and challenges.

  • Maintenance:  Associates working on projects and PM scheduling
  • Production:  Scheduling
  • Purchasing:  Quality of incoming raw material and finished goods
  • Innovation:  Quality standards are defined by the Innovations department
  • Buyers:  Ordering for projects and setting up of new suppliers
  • Scheduling:  Availability of equipment
  • Logistics: Incoming receiving inspection
  • IT:  Local IT infrastructure
  • Contractors used for production and building projects
  • Vendors of services such as machinists 

 

External influences:

 Suppliers of raw and finished goods 

 

4. Position of the function within the organization:

5. Key result areas 

 

  • Process Optimization: 
    • Continuously review and improve processes to reduce the total cost of ownership.
    • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the whole supply chain of the plant impacting the total operational cost.
  • Quality Control: 
    • Implement and maintain quality control standards to ensure products meet established specifications..
    • Develop and implement quality assurance procedures and protocols to produce and deliver goods in line with the specification defined by the Innovations department.
  • Cost Analysis: 
    • Analyze operational costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and propose changes to reduce production expenses while maintaining quality.
    • Participate actively in the further implementation of these changes – both through capital investment projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Prepare the investment files (including specifications of the manufacturer), including justification calculations, investment cost, and labor analysis.

    • Supervise the implementation and installation of investment projects so that the agreements made in connection with timing, budget, safety, and quality are met.

  • Collaboration: 
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, quality control, maintenance, production planning, vendor scheduling and logistics to address production challenges and drive process improvements.
    • Supervise the implementation and installation of investment projects so that the agreements made in connection with timing, budget, safety, and quality are met.

    • Stimulate employees to the inclusion of an active role in lean Activities (such as Kaizen events, 5S, LDMS & skills matrix): advise these workers and provide them with the necessary technical and administrative support (e.g., answer questions, provide tools, and give suggestions.).

  • Continuous Improvement: 
    • Actively engage in lean manufacturing practices and other methodologies to drive continuous improvement in production processes and reduce waste.
    • Initiate Kaizen events, and safeguards the 5S and LDMS standards.
  • Troubleshooting: 
    • Quickly identify and resolve technical issues, such as equipment malfunctions, IT failures or supply chain disruptions, to minimize disruptions in production.
    • Assist with the maintenance department and IT department to tackle technological questions and to implement technical solutions.

  • All capital investment projects completed on time and within budget.
  • Continuous improvement in lean, both in the plant and in the office.
  • Roxell Quality standards maintained through proper work instructions and improved incoming receiving inspection.
  • 5 % productivity improvements annually
  • OCE goal achieved by helping to reduce shipping errors
  • Bachelor in Industrial/Electromechanical/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with an understanding of production and logistics processes and equipment.
  • Excellent PC skills: MS Office (Excel).
  • AutoCad or Solidworks skills preferred. 
  • Experience with discrete manufacturing and related production planning is a plus.
  • Experience with the financial justifications of investment projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
  • Continuous improvement mindset to enhance production efficiency and reduce costs, which is inspirating for colleagues
  • Ability to collect and analyze production data as a basis for data-driven decision-making for process improvements.
  • Collaboration with production teams and other departments, with leadership skills to manage and motivate production staff.
  • Project planning and execution skills to oversee projects.
  • Effective communication skills to work with cross-functional teams and convey technical information.
  • Multi-tasking by combining daily operational tasks with longer running projects.
