What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Machinist - CNC Programmer / Operator position at CSWI w/Subsidiaries?
The Lead Machinist's role is to produce standard shapes and components for railing manufacturing by operating and maintaining a variety of machines, including water jet, CNC mill, CNC lathe, press brake, and shear. This position also requires the ability to troubleshoot design issues, support engineering with problem-solving, and assist in developing solutions when design or fabrication challenges occur.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain fabrication equipment including water jet, CNC mill, CNC lathe, press brake, and shear.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to produce components accurately.
- Program and adjust CNC equipment to ensure efficiency and precision.
- Utilize Flow software to create cutting files and nesting layouts.
- Collaborate with engineering to identify and resolve design discrepancies (“design busts”) and propose practical solutions.
- Assist in creating or modifying component designs when required to meet project needs.
- Perform quality inspections to verify dimensions, tolerances, and part specifications.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on machines.

Qualifications (Knowledge & Skills)
- Proficiency with Flow software for water jet programming is required.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
- Basic proficiency in 3D CAD drawing software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent) preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proven problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience operating CNC machinery and fabrication equipment.
- Experience in CNC programming for mill and lathe strongly preferred.
Work Environment
- Physical Conditions:
- This position works in a production facility and is regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and utilize the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e.: eye/face protection, hearing protection, steel toes, etc.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- The successful candidate will be hired on a temporary basis and, depending on performance, may be hired on a permanent full-time basis following the completion of a 90-day probationary period.
Compensation
CSW Industrials has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing salary ranges to ensure we remain competitive. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors. The pay scale is subject to change depending on business needs. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the CSWI Board of Directors.
