About the Resilience, Affect, and Neurodevelopment (RAN) Lab

The RAN Lab is a research lab in the Department of Psychology at California State University Dominguez Hills, led by Dr. David Weissman, Assistant Professor of Psychology. Our mission is to conduct research that can help support the mental health of youth who experience adversity in childhood. We do this by 1) developing a mechanistic understanding of how exposure to violence shapes the way youth experience emotions in their brains, bodies and minds, 2) identifying characteristics of youth’s emotion functioning that make them more resilient to the mental health impacts of childhood adversity, and 3) evaluating how structural characteristics of our society, like laws and public policies, may reduce or exacerbate racial and socioeconomic disparities in who experiences adversity and how that adversity impacts their brain development and mental health.

About the Position
The Resilience, Affect, and Neurodevelopment (RAN) Lab at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) is seeking a full-time recruitment coordinator and community liaison to lead recruitment efforts for an NIH-funded research study on adolescent childhood experiences, emotion functioning, and mental health, with potential grant renewal through 2028.

Position Information

Employment at Toro Auxiliary Partners is on an at-will basis. It can be terminated by either an employee or Toro Auxiliary Partners at any time with or without cause or advanced notice. Permanent status can neither be obtained nor granted.

This position is full-time, non-exempt, benefited, plus employer-sponsored health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, and sick/vacation pay.

Hourly Rate: $26.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Engagement

  • Build and sustain partnerships with local schools, youth centers, family service agencies, and other community organizations to support participant recruitment.
  • Represent the RAN Lab at community meetings, events, and networking opportunities to promote the research study and foster trust and collaboration.

Participant Recruitment & Coordination

  • Inform potential participants and their families about the research study by phone, email, and in-person.
  • Schedule research sessions and manage logistics to ensure a smooth experience for participants.
  • Follow approved research protocols for recruitment, consent, and data collection processes.

Community Advisory Board of Management

  • Identify and recruit youth and adult stakeholders to join a Community Advisory Board (CAB).
  • Organize, schedule, and facilitate bi-monthly CAB meetings, including agenda preparation, meeting facilitation, and follow-up communication.

Team Coordination & Supervision

  • Train and oversee student research assistants involved in recruitment and outreach activities.
  • Assign tasks, provide regular feedback, and ensure student team members adhere to research protocols and timelines.

Administrative Support

  • Track recruitment efforts and maintain organized records of participant communications and community contacts.
  • Process participant incentives in a timely and accurate manner in alignment with lab procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation of recruitment materials such as flyers, scripts, and community presentations.
  • Assist with processing mileage reimbursements, purchase orders, and check request payments.

Reporting & Communication

  • Provide regular updates to the Principal Investigator and study team regarding recruitment progress and community engagement efforts.
  • Contribute to grant reporting and documentation as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2-3 year of experience in youth or family services, community engagement, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • California Driver’s License Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Existing relationships or familiarity with community organizations serving youth and families in the CSUDH region.
  • Fluency in Spanish (verbal and written).
  • Experience with community advisory boards or participatory research.
