Job Title: Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist – International Medical Graduate (IMG)
Position Summary:
We are seeking two highly motivated International Medical Graduates (IMGs) with a strong internal medicine background and familiarity with medical coding/documentation to join our Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team. In this role, you will review clinical charts, identify documentation gaps, collaborate with providers, and ensure accurate documentation that reflects patient complexity, severity of illness, and supports proper coding and reimbursement. This position bridges clinical care and health information management, playing a vital role in compliance, quality, and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed chart reviews (inpatient/outpatient) to assess documentation accuracy and completeness.
- Abstract clinical data from patient records and identify gaps or inconsistencies.
- Generate compliant provider queries to clarify or improve documentation.
- Collaborate with coding, HIM, and provider teams to ensure documentation supports accurate code assignment, DRG, SOI, and ROM.
- Provide education and feedback to providers on documentation best practices.
- Track query outcomes, identify trends, and report CDI metrics.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, DRG systems, CMS regulations, and CDI standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Strong clinical background in Internal Medicine (residency or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with coding and documentation review highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
- Strong communication skills for provider interaction and education.
- Proficiency with EHR systems, chart abstraction tools, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDI or coding certifications (CCDS, CDIP, CPC, CCS) a plus.
- Prior experience in CDI, coding, DRG validation, or severity/risk reviews.
- Knowledge of HACs, PSIs, and quality/reimbursement impact.
