Sustainability Engagement & Research
- Develop a detailed understanding of the current state of sustainability across CSS Farms.
- Learn and apply the CSS Pillars of Sustainability to ongoing and future initiatives.
- Review all farm-level sustainability projects and the updated 2025 CSS Sustainability Roadmaps.
- Meet with farm managers and agronomists (via Teams or phone) to understand current practices and gather site-specific sustainability data.
- Visit 2–3 farm operations (when possible) including greenhouse, seed farms, and/or chip farm locations.
- Using the CSS Pillars of Sustainability, develop a tailored sustainability project aligned with:
- The intern’s interests, and
- CSS Farms’ 2026 Sustainability Objectives & Goals.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Director to understand and support sustainability communication strategies for internal teams, customers, and the public.
- Support the creation and refinement of 2025–2026 Sustainability Roadmaps for:
- Colorado City, CO NFT / Greenhouse
- Cody, NE Seed Farm
- North Platte, NE Seed Farm
- Ione, OR Seed Farm
- Holbrook, ID Seed Farm
- Lyndonville, NY Seed Farm
- Bliss, NY Chip Farm
- Comanche, TX Chip Farm
- Coordinate with site managers and key team members to gather content.
- Organize, professionalize, and prepare the roadmaps for presentation.
- Present roadmap draft deliverables to each farm’s GM, Farm Manager(s), and Agronomists prior to internship completion.
- Analyze water availability and usage patterns of the Ogallala Aquifer near Dalhart, TX.
- Report on aquifer levels, depletion, well performance, and long-term sustainability considerations.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Natural Resources, Agronomy, Ag Business, or a related field.
- Strong interest in agricultural sustainability and regenerative or resource-efficient farming practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse teams across multiple states.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and research skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Willingness to travel to farm sites as needed.
- Experience with sustainability reporting, environmental data, water resource management, or agricultural systems.
- Familiarity with farm operations, agronomy, or production agriculture.
- Comfort coordinating meetings and gathering information from multiple stakeholders.
- Interest in developing professional-quality reports, presentations, or roadmaps.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a self-driven approach to project development.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present findings to leadership teams.
