Position Overview
The Shop Operations Technician plays a key role in supporting daily operations for a commercial structural steel erection company. This position performs routine maintenance on trucks, trailers, and hydraulic equipment; maintains accurate service and inspection records; and provides logistical support by running parts and materials to active job sites. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and light repairs on company vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, tire maintenance, brake service, and basic hydraulic work.
- Maintain accurate service logs, inspection records, and maintenance schedules for trucks, trailers, lifts, and tools.
- Track and document all vehicle and equipment inspections in coordination with the safety and operations team.
- Assist with general shop organization, inventory management, and cleaning.
- Pick up and deliver parts, tools, and materials to and from construction job sites as needed.
- Conduct basic diagnostic checks and report issues requiring advanced repair.
- Ensure all shop tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
- Assist with preparation of equipment for upcoming jobs (fueling, cleaning, tagging, loading).
- Support equipment mobilization and demobilization for job site operations.
- Support with additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus).
- Ability to lift/carry 75lbs and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and safety-conscious.
Preferred Experience
- Prior work in a construction, fleet, or equipment maintenance shop.
- Experience handling service logs, inspections, or basic hydraulics.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in the company shop but requires regular travel to job sites for pickups, deliveries, and on-site support.
Job Type: Full-time
Base Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
