JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Museum Director, the Museum Assistant (Intern) supports the daily operations of the Chugach Museum. This role contributes to a range of activities, including museum operations, exhibit development, and community cultural engagement. The intern collaborates closely with museum staff to gain hands-on experience in museum best practices for non-profit management, develop an understanding of the role museums play as economic and cultural assets within communities, and learn foundational principles of cultural stewardship.
Chugach Tribal Services (CTS) administers this internship program on behalf of Chugach Alaska Corporation (CAC). The program is specifically designed for Shareholders and Descendants of the Chugach Alaska Corporation (CAC), with the goal of building long-term career pathways in cultural stewardship and heritage preservation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Supports the daily operations of the Chugach Museum.
- Assists with conducting research, developing exhibits, education programs, or other museum projects as needed.
- Supports community engagement efforts, including events and outreach activities.
- Assists in developing Museum newsletters, handouts, and other resources.
- Supports community and regional shareholder events.
- Attends all program participant meetings.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Mandatory:
- Chugach Alaska Corporation (CAC) Shareholder or descendant of a CAC shareholder.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college as a full-time student with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or above (in each class).
- Pursuing a degree in Museum Studies, Education, History, Anthropology, Arts and Culture, or related fields.
- Demonstrated intermediate skills in the use of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Knowledge Of: administrative procedures, policies and practices, operation of common office machinery including copiers, fax machines, and computers.
