Responsible for operating snowmaking equipment to create manufactured snow from water resources for ski slopes and trails.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, maintain and operate snowmaking equipment to include, but not limited to: water pipes, values, fluid levels, volume, temperature controls.
- Document and report all mechanical and safety issues.
- Complete maintenance logs and checklists.
- Perform light maintenance or repairs to equipment.
- Monitor water resources and reservoirs and energy usage.
- Monitor snowmaking equipment to ensure safe and optimal production of quality snow.
- Observe energy consumption.
- Safely and effectively run snowmaking pumps and guns.
- Control snowmaking equipment while it is running to ensure safe, cost-effective, quality production of snow.
- Reposition snow guns on the mountain to meet operational needs as directed and as weather permits.
- Repair snow gun and snowmobiles – basic repairs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
- 2-3 years of progressive hands-on ski area maintenance experience preferred.
- Mechanical and technological aptitude required.
- Interest in skiing or snowboarding preferred, to understand guest quality expectations of grooming product.
- Experienced snowmobile operator strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must be flexible and able to react to changing situations.
- A high school diploma required.
- Specific skills in snowmaking and grooming standards and techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors in cold and extreme inclement weather conditions.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk or hear and taste or smell.
- The employee is frequently required to walk.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Working with heights, safety equipment, use of equipment emitting loud noises, high pressure mechanicals and some hazardous materials.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- Able to work third shift, weekends and holidays as schedule and weather dictates.
- A valid, unrestricted Michigan’s driver’s license preferred.
- Non-smoking candidates preferred.
